Pregnancy is a great time to catch up on some mommie-to-be reading. For first-time parents, it can be overwhelming to ponder the upcoming event! With all the information available, how can you choose the best out there? These are some of my favorite resources:
The Doula Book, Klaus, Kennell, and Klaus This book is amazing! It gives a wonderful perspective of how birth should be - natural, powerful, inspiring & with a Doula. It describes how a Labor Support Provider does not replace the Father or the Partner, but can greatly enhance their hands-on experience as well.
The Thinking Woman’s Guide to a Better Birth, Henci Goer I have yet to read a more concise birth book! It details every procedure & intervention related to birth, what the doctor’s may not want you to know, great alternatives to interventions, and how you can advocate for exactly what you want for your birth experience! A must read for every pregnant woman.
The Birth Partner, Penny Simkin, P.T Quoted as “the birth partner’s bible”, this may be one of the only books you need at your labor. It details the entire birthing process with easy-to-find tabs throughout for quick access to information. Too, it explains feelings a birth partner may experience, as well as common feelings and responses to be expected from Mom.
